JOSEI

The term Josei in Japan refers to Anime or Manga that has adult women as its target audience. This is a classification and doesn't necessarily accurately reflect the audience or the nature of the content it contains.

Josei frequently addresses subjects that Shōjo might just briefly mention or completely avoid. such as the realities of romantic relationships, sex, drug use, abuse, and other weighty issues. On the other hand, some Josei just approaches common, everyday life issues in a more mature manner.

Although Josei comes in a wide range, a lot of it is frequently mislabeled. Because they don't have female protagonists, several Anime or Manga are often disregarded as Josei. Others are thought to belong to the more well-known genre, such as Shōjo.

A general rule of thumb, to determine whether an Anime or Manga is a Josei, is to bear in mind, that regardless of the genre, if it appeals to women more than girls or teenagers, it's a Josei.
