SHOJO

Shōjo targeting an audience of adolescent females and young adult women. It should not be confused with Shojō or Shōjō or Shojo which respectively means letter or note, symptoms of a disease and virgin. Although due to romanization issues it is commonly spelled as "Shojo".

Shōjo is a demographic indicator for Anime and Manga aimed at girls. Shōjo is often associated with a visual and storytelling style rather than with a demographic.

Although Shōjo Anime and Manga are typically known for their strong emphasis on relationships and character development, they are simply too diverse to fit into a single category.

Some Shōjo may be completely devoid of genuine conflict, while others may have heartbreaking drama.

Mahō Shōjo, or "magical girl" is a well-liked subgenre of Shōjo. There are various Shōjo subgenres, but this one is the most common and deserves special attention. The heroines in this subgenre typically acquire magical abilities to combat evil in the service of love and justice. Magical females are known for their intricate transformation scenes and adorable outfits. The action in this subgenre is also more prevalent than in classic Shōjo.
